In the early 2009 we first met mayor Křížková and agreed together that we would build a lookout tower. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. It hasn't occurred to us however, that the process would take nearly ten years. The mayor gave us a rather free hand and so our only stakeholders, where the project was concerned, were the authorities. After eight years of varying design proposals, we have finally reached a consensus.
The constructed tower is tiny, compared to our first proposal. The complete height of the structure is roughly six meters above the ground, while the lookout floor is just two meters above the terrain. However, even such a short tower rapidly increases the view and opens a three-sixty degree outlook on the horizon.
The aesthetics of the lookout take after the volcanic cones of surrounding hills and military bunkers of the first-republic fortification. Basalt blocks complement the elementary concrete structure, and provide a transition between the terrain and the concrete part. A stainless steel net is mounted on the surface of the lookout to serve as a vegetation support. In the next few years, the lookout will be overgrown with climbing foliage and incorporated into the morphology of the breath-taking landscape that surrounds it. The lookout is a popular one.
Due to its relative ease of access is a frequent goal of trips and outings. Great thanks and admiration goes to the relentless mayor, who had been the strongest link of the chain and has managed to push the project to a happy ending. Although it may have seemed a foolish dream at first. Thanks for the determination! Ondra Horáček and Matyáš Prošek helped with the info graphics of the lookout.
