The Apartment with a Terrace

Working for friends is always difficult. Naturally, they are more honest with you than regular clients. The worst part is an another thing. The hardest part is the weight of responsibility that you feel towards them.

We designed The Apartment with a Terrace down to the last drawer. Spacious apartment in Vokovice neighbourhood in Prague has three bedrooms, a living area with a kitchen and a large outside terrace. The original state of the apartment, which is a part of a complex built in the early 2000s, was not good at all. That lead us to design an extensive refurbishment. We made small adjustments in the layout of the apartment as well.

We have cloaked the original appalling interior into a new, minimalistic coat. Various shades of brown and rustic built-in furniture, that could have easily been taken from the pages of nineties German outlet store magazine, had to depart. On the foundation of the original layout we've designed a fresh contemporary interior. The apartment serves as a back-drop for the owner's collection of paintings, and we didn't want to steal the spotlight.

Every room has a spell or a trick. The kitchen wall is traced with metal panelling, so that little Gogo has a place for all his drawings of mum and dad. Sophisticated ceiling conceals all of the technology, that might not please one's eye. Only commanding light fixtures are revealed along with state-of-the-art speakers, that provide perfect sound.

The child's bedroom is a boyhood dream beneath a glowing cloud. There he also has a house of his own and a space to exhibit his construction-kit creations.

The guest bedroom is also a study. Aside from lighting fixtures by Czech glassblowers, skilfully designed by German designers, the room also has a large library. The library conceals two rolling circles reminiscent in their compositions of the cycles of the moon.

The master bedroom leaves intimate touches only for the couple. Contactless control of the lights is a technological feat that makes controlling the light a matter of intuition.

The apartment terrace is a chapter of its own. We have chosen the best landscapers to help us transform the concrete-paved desert into a lush garden and a pleasant place to spend one's free time. Besides the decorative plants, there are also bushes of currant or strawberries.

The entire apartment stems from the idea of a smart home. A system that assists clients not only with the everyday tasks of light or heat control, but also with watering the garden or keeping the apartment safe from a possible intrusion of unwanted visitors.

We know, from our occasional visits, that the clients enjoy living in the apartment. And so we have done well and another friends are happy.
