The Forest House

He drove along the last buildings in the village, to where the forest was already deep. He only had a bottle of rum and his fishing gear with him. Come to think of it, he didn't need much else. His weekend refuge seemed nearly invisible on an evening like this. He opened the house up, so that he'd have a view of the creek and started the fireplace. Sometimes he would bring women here. Other times he would not. Today was one of those times. He wanted some quiet time by himself. He had a swig from the bottle and was about to go to bed. Tomorrow called for an early start. He turned out the light and looked outside into the forest. Six glossy eyes were staring back at him. Despite the darkness he could make out silhouettes of three deer. They'd come here often. So much food, he thought to himself. But no. Tomorrow was for fishing.

The Forest House is an architecture of luxurious asceticism. A quiet piece of land, practically in the forest is an ideal place for getaways. We design a house that is half indoors, half outdoors. Its façades can be opened, so that the forest, the creek and the clearing all flow into the house. Subtle steel structure, brick paving, concrete fireplace and a grid of rough wooden planks. The minimum utility and raw materials meet the luxury of large glazing. Heating by the fireplace is both a necessity and a privilege.
