The Collector
The owner of the house is a collector. He likes to surround himself with art and various quality items of craft. His collection is neither comprehensive or organized. It grows impulsively, based on the inexplicable inner movements of the collector. The collector likes to be outside and work in a garden. The garden has to be established before the house is and it has to be large. The house is to be placed in the garden in such manner, so that the collector can observe it from the garden and so that it would be beautiful even from the pool. The collector swims everyday.
The Site
The site is ideal, because it is vast and has a gentle slope - allowing the view of a distant horizon. A creek forms a natural boundary of the site. We place to house as to take advantage of the slope. We make it long and place the living quarters of the house towards its end, deep into the garden, close to the creek and far from the street. We make the house a simple one on the inside. After the collection needs many white walls and little distraction. And the building exterior reflects it's insides.
The House
The slope of the site is just enough to create a slow ramp. This creates access to each room. Literally a gallery is created with enough walls and space to accommodate the collection. The ramp leads into the living area with large glazing and the view of a strict geometry of the pool.
